Each week during the 2011 season, we will be highlighting one of the PVYFCA teams. We will also be highlighting 1 football player and 1 cheerleader from that team as our Athletes of the Week. PVYFCA Atheletes of the Week are nominated by their coaches.

 August 29th

Football Athlete of the Week: Harrison Setter

Team: Mighty Mite Spartans

Years Played: Harrison is starting his 3rd season with the Spartans

Favorite NFL Team: Arizona Cardinals

Favorite NFL Player: Larry Fitzgerald (Harrison wears #11 in his honor)

What's your favorite thing about playing football? "Hmmm. Running the ball. Catching the ball. Tackling guys. Scoring touch downs. I pretty much love it all."

Harrison was chosen as PVYFCA Football Athlete of the week by Spartans Head Coach Dave Mata for his performance in the August 26th game against Prescott Blue. "Harry gained the most yardage for the team," said Coach Mata. What was most impressive about this 7 year old's performance, was a 40 yd. run late in the 4th quarter, where he was tackled just short of the goal line. Awesome job Harrison!

Cheer Athlete of the Week: Jasmine Walters

Team: Mighty Mite Spartans

Years Cheerleading: This is Jasmine's 1st year

Favorite Cheer: "Don't Mess With the Best!"

What's your favorite thing about being a cheerleader? "Cheering for the team."

Four year old Cheer Mascot, Jasmine Walters, was chosen as PVYFCA Cheer Athlete of the Week by Head Coach Lynn Brighton because even though she's the youngest on the squad, she's got a lot of spirit! Even though she's only 4, Jasmine knows all the cheers, and is able to make it through the whole game- just like the older girls. Way to go Jasmine!

Cheer Athlete of the Week: Sierra Brighton

Team: Mighty Mite Spartans

Years Cheerleading: This is Sierra's 5th season as a Spartan Cheerleader

Favorite Cheer: "Hot to Go!"

What's your favorite thing about being a cheerleader?  "I love that it gives me an excuse to be loud (yell). And I love supporting the team."

Twelve year old Spartan Cheerleader, Sierra Brighton, was also chosen as a PVYFCA Cheer Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Lynn Brighton chose Sierra because she showed just what it means to be a cheerleader during the August 26th game. Sierra was stung by a bee while cheering. And even though she was uncomfortable and in pain, she kept on cheering for her team! Way to hang in there Sierra!
