REGISTRATION FOR THE 2011 SEASON IS CLOSED
The Season
The football season begins with the draft (date, time and location TBA), and will run to the Championship Day on November 12, 2011. Beginning August 1, 2011, we will have practice Monday thru Friday for two weeks. At this point in the season, we will change practice to two nights a week, usually Tuesdays and Thursdays. The games will start on August 27, 2011, with Playoffs begining October 22, 2011.
The Draft
The process of placing participants on teams is called the 'draft.' The draft is held in order to try to create teams as even in talent as possible. The draft participants will be players that are new to PVYFCA or return players who need to change divisions due to a change in their age/weight. For the 2011 season, the draft will be a little different than in years past. All players, new or return, will be practicing together (broken up by division) for the first 4 nights of practice. This will allow for the coaches to evaluate the players. The draft will take place on Thursday, August 4th (PVYFCA coaches and league officials only). All players will placed on a team. Return players that did not need to change divisions due to a change in their age/weight will stay on their previous season's team.
A 'fit to play' physical is required to participate.
Participants will be notified by their coach, as soon as possible, after the draft has been completed.
Games
All games are held on Saturdays. As we are part of Northern Arizona Youth Football (NAYF), there are traveling games to other Northern/Central Arizona communities. All efforts are made, when scheduling, to keep traveling games to a minimum. The other communities involved with NAYF are Chino Valley, Bagdad, Big Bug (Dewey-Humboldt), Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Sedona, Williams, Flagstaff, Prescott, Wickenburg and Page.
Home games will be held at the Bradshaw Mountain High School (Field Locations) football field. Games run approximately two hours long and all participants are required to arrive an hour before their scheduled game time in order to warm up. The game start times will be anywhere between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. We may have some night games scheduled so the participants can play under the lights.
Practice
Tackle football is an intense and disciplined sport. There is a great deal of commitment expected from participants and parents. The first three weeks of the season, practice is held every week night, Monday thru Friday. This is to condition the athletes due to insurance and American Youth Football (AYF) regulations. All athletes are required to meet a minimum of twenty hours of conditioning before they are allowed to have contact in pads or 'hit.'
